99 Bottles of Beer on the Floor

It was yet another busy weekend. I swear, I say that all the time, but I feel like I never get any downtime. I mentioned this to my mom last weekend and she said when married couples both work full-time, it’s inevitable that weekends are filled with chores. She’s right, of course. At least if we had a big snowstorm we’d be forced to stay home, but South Dakota hasn’t gotten the winter memo yet because we’ve had nary a snowflake in weeks, and yesterday was 66º.

Today it’s only in the 30s, but there’s not a cloud in the sky. We had to pick up our wine pack from Belle Joli’ Winery in Sturgis, so we figured we might as well treat ourselves to their awesome Sunday brunch. Tara got Eggs Benedict and I opted for the Loco Boco, their riff on Loco Moco – a traditional Hawaiian breakfast consisting of a hamburger patty over white rice, topped with a fried egg and gravy. Belle Joli’ does a buffalo patty and poached eggs instead. Delicious, as always!

The rest of the weekend was spent decorating for Christmas, both at work and at home. This here’s my pride and joy.

We like to keep it classy at Casa Cat.

I also decided to reorganize our liquor closet, because we were tripping over cans of cider and bottles of beer every time we opened the door. This is much betterer.

I know what you’re thinking: my god! There are bare spots on the shelves!! Not pictured are the bottles of wine on the shelf catty corner to this one. They’re too tall to fit down there. Maybe I’ll just buy a shitload of mini bottles and stash ’em there to fill in the space. It’ll be like playing Tetris with booze. Miss a spot, take a shot. I like this new version already.

While I was busying myself with that task, Tara was plotting out next spring’s garden. Have I mentioned how cute she is when she does this? She’s really taken a shining to this gardening stuff. I’m just along for the ride.

Look at that color-coded chart she’s got happening, and the gardening book for homework. This rivals the grow lights and plant starts in the basement from last spring!

Incidentally, there’s also a picture of our liquor closet pre-cleanup in that same post I just linked to. What comes around goes around, I guess.

I know I’ve been on the fence this month about whether or not to post every day. I have decided not to do it. It’s been fun, but coming up with topics every single day for an entire month is too hard. I just can’t do it, guys. I tried.

I’ll see you in December!

  1. Yes. Yes, indeed, “bare space on the shelves” is exactly what I thought when I saw your liquor closet. I definitely did not think, “Holy cow, are they alcoholic doomsday peppers.” Nope, not at all.

    Looking forward to tomorrow’s post.

  4. And I thought *I* liked to drink.
The garden planning is quite impressive.
You’re taking tomorrow off. I knew it. You lazy slacker.

  5. Ah, color-coded garden plans. I used to do that… That’s quite early, though. My gardening urges don’t start to show themselves until late February/March. The exact time depend on the quality and quantity of XC skiing I’ve gotten at that point. Not enough and I want more – gardening can wait. Plenty and I’m ready to trade skis for gardening boots. This lack of snow MN and SD have had is great for our construction project, but not good for skiing.
Is it December today? OH THANK GOD! Uhh… I mean, I’ve really enjoyed finding time to read your daily posts. Liveandletthai did this to me several months ago. A post a day for a month. I almost died trying to keep up!

    • Haha! Well, I appreciate your commitment to reading and noting. Not everybody who follows me bothered doing the same, so you have my undying gratitude. Now, if I could send some snow your way, I’d do so in a heartbeat. But we don’t have any snow either!

  6. I’m not sure how you had 66 degrees and 3 days later, we get a literal foot of snow?? Doesn’t weather move west to east? Damn.
